About
Buddhini Waidyawansa is a Research Assistant Professor of Physics at the Louisiana Tech University, LA. She conducts research in the field of experimental precision electroweak measurements at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility in Virginia. She is an instructor in physics and also the lab-coordinator and TA supervisor of the sophomore physics labs. Buddhini completed her undergraduate degree in engineering physics at the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka in 2002, and her doctorate in Physics from Ohio University, Athens, OH in 2013. She then joined Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility as a Hall C postdoctoral fellow working on the 12 GeV upgrades and in 2015 moved on to work at Argonne National Laboratory, Illinois as a senior postdoctoral fellow. In 2020, she joined the faculty of the department of physics at the Louisiana Tech University as an intructor in physics for PHYS2611 and PHYS2621 lab courses. Her current research work involves data analysis software and tools development for the MOLLER experiment at Jefferson Lab which is planned to start collecting data in Summer of 2026.
Research interests
- Searches for physics beyond the Standard Model of Particle physics using precision electron scattering experiments
- Data acquisition, analysis and software development for precision electroweak measurements
Teaching
PHYS2611 and PHYS262 sophomore physics labs where students use pre-designed experiments to understand theoretical concepts they learn in physics theory courses. In addition to getting the hands-on experience of conducting experiments, students are exposed to the use of MS Excel as a data analysis tool and methods in scientific data reporting.
