Abstract
This article will chart the alterations in one four-note collection over the course of Morton Gould's West Point Symphony, and show how tracking intervallic changes and alterations to the symmetry of the tetrachord can be used to understand the form of the work. Finally, it will address the centrality of this approach to various pedagogical techniques for both analysis and performance.
